Volunteers

Together We Can Make A Difference
Without the volunteers, who help in so many ways, we would not be able to offer the variety of activities that take place at the Pender Care Centre.

Each week there are volunteers who help the residents play Bingo and then serve them a small lunch. Sometimes they bring sandwiches, sometimes they serve root beer floats. And, along with that lunch comes their presence, their smiles, their visiting and laughter. One volunteer helps with Bingo every week and she is a valuable friend. Once in a while the organization scheduled to play Bingo may forget, and when that happens we are left without the help we need to conduct the activity in an enjoyable manner. With only two or three volunteers we have enough help and all residents are able to enjoy the game.

We also have volunteers who take "Meals on Wheels" to shut-ins within the community. They provide a valuable service. Sometimes the help they provide allows a person to remain in their own home a little longer.

On Friday mornings the lobby comes alive with several ladies waiting to have their hair styled by two or three volunteers. These volunteers arrive and begin their work by 8:30 a.m. and their task is usually completed by 11:30 a.m. They are busy all morning rolling or curling hair, drying it, and combing it into a lovely style. Lot's of visiting takes place during this time. Old days may be reminisced too because many of the ladies who volunteer in the beauty shop have been doing it for quite some time.
We also have volunteers who do nail care, mend clothing, and visit with residents, lead Bible studies, play music, and bring goodies.

Remember, you never give something away without receiving more in return. The smiles that shine on the resident's faces should be all the inspiration that is needed for sharing your time. Many of our residents have served their communities in years passed. Let's show them our appreciation by making their days a little brighter.
We are in need of Bingo volunteers, extra Beauty Shop volunteers, and nail care volunteers at this time. We would welcome anyone interested in volunteering here at the Pender Care Centre. Please contact the Activites Director, at 385-3072 or e-mail us at pencc@huntel.net if you have any questions about sharing your time with us.
The Pender Care Centre is owned and managed within our own community. Please show your support. Together we can make a difference.
