Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy is a multi-faceted aspect of rehabilitation. It is designed to help individuals with speech or swallowing problems as well as cognitive problems. Persons may be referred to speech therapy for the following diagnoses:

stroke
traumatic brain injury
swallowing/eating difficulties
other neurological conditions affecting cognition

Speech therapists are available on an as needed basis at Pender Community Hospital to see both inpatients and outpatients and work closely with physicians, nurses and other rehabilitation services to provide quality treatment to patients and education to patients and their families.

The speech therapist at Pender Community Hospital are licensed in the state of Nebraska. They evaluate the patient's condition and develop an individualized program according to the patient's needs. A person with swallowing difficulties may require an evaluation of their swallowing while being x-rayed, to best understand the cause of their problem.
