The Pender Community Hospital's "Quacky Wacky Walkers" raised $5,085 for the American Cancer Society. They participated in the Cuming County Relay for Life event held in West Point at the West Point - Beemer High School track, July 18.

They raised money by various events including a Taco Bag lunch and a Grill Out Picnic lunch held at PCH. They also raised over $850 at an employee bake sale. Local businesses in Pender donated $1,455 to the PCH team. This years Relay for Life event in West Point raised over $73,000 for cancer research. The team sold luminarias for $10 each. These luminarias lined the track and were lit at 10:00 pm in a memorial lighting ceremony.

The Quacky Wacky Walkers were given the Gold Team award, meaning they raised over $5,000. They also received the Top New Team award and the Top Business Team award. Over 20 teams from surrounding towns participated in the 12 hour event.

Team members are Dee Moeller, Deb Suhr, Emma Kubik, Cathy Simonsen, Rita Brehmer, Dana French, Kelly Kaup, Flora Lehmkuhl, Michelle Lortz, Mike Hansen, Jane Jacobsen, Gail Brondum, Holly Kinning, LeAnn Spangler, Linda Simonsen, Nancy Suhr and Mary Tonjes. This was the first year the team participated in the event.
