Hospital Renovation

The Hospital Board of Directors awarded the construction contract for Phase II remodeling to Otte Construction. The Otte Construction firm had submitted the low bid of $353,000. The Phase II project affects many areas that include:

  1. The replacement of the Radiologic and Fluoroscopic room at the hospital. The current equipment was acquired in 1994 as a refurbished unit. The radiology department has selected Philips equipment at a cost of $275,000.

  2. The acquisition of a fixed site CT Scanner. The hospital currently provides a mobile CT Scanner service. The mobile service comes to PCH every Tuesday. A fixed site CT Scanner would allow CT's to be performed seven days a week 24 hours a day. This will reduce the number of times that District patrons will need to travel for that service. The cost of the equipment is $400,000.

  3. The expansion and renovation of the Medical Records Department. The department is currently cramped for space because of the increased need for documentation of patient care. The requirements of HIPAA are also creating the need for a different space configuration.

  4. The renovation and expansion of the Pharmacy space is also included in the project. The current Pharmacy space is very cramped.

  5. The relocation of the Information System hub is also included as well as an office. The current hub is located in the space to be occupied by Radiology.

  6. The Quality and Risk Management function and the Physician Dictation area will also be remodeled.

  7. The renovation of the mammography room is also included in the project. The hospital recently purchased a mammography machine and this will improve the décor for the patients.

  8. In order to support all of the renovations, the hospital will need to add a sprinkler system to those parts of the building. We will also add a new heating and ventilating system for the areas under change.

It is expected the project will begin in early April and be completed in December of 2003.
