We have been through some fun times this past month. One event was a "Bean Auction". The employees donated random items over the past couple months. Each resident was then given twenty lima beans in a bowl. Each bean was worth $100.00, so they started out with $2,000.00 and a styrofoam plate with a number on it for bidding. Activities Director, Shelly May was the auctioneer and several staff members assisted by displaying the object up for bid.

On October 17th we brought in some new entertainment.
Johnny James and his wife Sandy from Omaha and Johnny's brother, Terry James from Meadow Grove. They are Leota Verplanks brothers. Leota is a resident of the care centre. She was in all her glory that day having her family come and sing and play their guitars. Her daughter, Sherry Oswald also got up and sang. They even enticed Shelly May, Activities Director, to belt out a tune.

We had a Smile Contest on October 3rd for National
World Smile Day. Our Housekeeper-Laundry Supervisor,
Starr Hilsinger went around to all the residents and
several employees and took pictures of just their
smiles. The pictures were then displayed on a table and numbered. The residents and employees had to match the name to the correct number. Prizes were given to the three people that got the most right.

On August 26th, National Dog Day, we decided to put on our own "Dog Show". We had four dogs brought in by employees. Jasmine, a very cute poodle, came with her owner Teresa Powley. Jasmine stole the show that day. She performed numerous tricks and the residents really enjoyed watching her. The canines strutted their stuff around the room as the residents petted and played with them. Cindy French brought her two Chihuahuas dressed as a Doctor and Nurse. Roxie "The Hunter" LouAlice and Dr. Roscoe Jenkins.
