Administrators Report Spring 2006

Our remodeling is alive and well at Pender Care Centre. If you remember last year 2005, we remodeled all the resident rooms with new windows, drapes, curtains and new electric beds and bed spreads. Now we have started on all the common areas from the sun room on one end, down all the halls, to the assisted living dining room on the other end. This will give us a fresh new look and a much happier and refreshing atmosphere. We can't wait for it to be completed sometime in June.

The flowers and plants have been planted outside by staff and residents. Our raised garden has lots of vegetables in it thanks to the donation of the Simonsen Family. Ken Simonsen along with many residents' gives our flowers and vegetables a lot of TLC. The residents' love to sit outside in the lawn furniture and watch what is going on. Even if they can't participate physically, they always know the proper way to plant each particular flower, plant or vegetable. A lot of knowledge there for sure!

Care Centre staff went to Norfolk for special training for our new bus that is coming soon. Our new bus will carry 14 passengers with 2 in wheelchairs. This bus will allow us to do many more activities outside the facility and set up a bus route, to outlying communities, to bring citizens to Pender for hospital appointments and doctor visits, when they can't drive themselves. This will be a great benefit to all the populace of the Pender Hospital District.

Exciting things are happening at Pender Care Centre. Stop in and visit our residents and see for yourselves the change.
