Happy New Year

Pender Care Centre residents brought in the New Year with the soldiers in the Middle East. We figured out that at 3:00 pm our time it was midnight in the Middle East. This was very special to all of us. Hence, the theme "Celebrating with our Soldiers".

Everyone was given a party hat, lei, and a number as they entered the dining room, which was lit by candlelight. Noisemakers and party poppers were already on the tables. The music of Guy Lombardi was playing from the boom box. We brought in a chicken borrowed from the Steve Sundermans for a game of Chicken Bingo. This was very quick, I think the chicken was scared and well I think you can guess what happened from there. Marianna Schilling had the winning number and was presented with a chicken dancing Ernie. Everyone got a kick out of the chicken business!

Everyone had their choice of Shirley Temples or Roy Rogers served with a drink umbrella and a cherry. This was very festive looking. It was also Hazel Egerman's 97th birthday, so cake was served. After a little time of refreshments, the bubbly was served and the countdown began. With the help of several staff members, the New Years ball began to slowly descend from the ceiling as well as the balloons, which were hanging from the ceiling. Everyone participated in the countdown. "Happy New Year" was yelled from every direction, and the noisemakers made noise and the party poppers popped. Smiles galore!

The residents, staff and some friends and family that had stopped by for a visit had a great time.
