Dietary Services

Patient Meals
Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. Pender Community Hospital makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared according to your doctor's orders. Patients are served breakfast at 7:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 a.m., and dinner at 5:30 p.m. Occasionally your meals may be delayed if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. You will be served as soon as possible after your examination or test is completed. Each patient now receives a menu with each day's selection for breakfast, lunch and supper. Modifications are made on the menu before it is sent out, if the patient is on a restricted or special diet. This is yet another service that we offer, to try to give our patients more input to wards their care.

Dietitian consultations
A registered dietitian is available to consult with patients who may have special dietary needs or problems. Patients are generally referred to the dietitian based on the assessment of the dietary supervisor or physician referral. If you believe you have a need for a dietitian consultation, please notify your doctor or contact Debra Suhr, Dietary Supervisor, at 402-385-4021.

Visitor Meals
If a family member or friend wants to eat with a patient, the visitors may go to the cafeteria, buy a meal there and take it back to the patient's room. If the visitor does not want to go to the cafeteria, a guest meal tray may be ordered in advance and delivered to the room for a cost of $2.50.

Labor Room
Expectant fathers, when requested, may receive one free guest tray from our dietary department. In cases of extended times of labor, the need for a second meal tray will be charged to the expectant father at the customary price.

Patient Age 7 and under
Since family members of patients age 7 and under are usually directly involved in the patient's care, a complimentary guest tray is available. This guest tray should be requested at least two hours in advance of the meal, if possible. One free guest tray per patient per mealtime is allowed. Additional guest trays will be charged at the customary price.
