Hello from Activities…
First off, I would like to bid a fond farewell to Judy Hermelbracht. Judy will be greatly missed. I will have my work cut out for me trying to fill her shoes. She did an amazing job. Secondly, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jane Jacobsen and I have taken over in the activities department. My husband, Kip and I have four children and we have lived in the Pender area for 10 years.
In February we will be doing many different activities to help keep everyone busy. We are looking forward to our Valentine's Party on Feb. 12. WE would love for anyone to come and join us.

February also recognizes a few national activities. It is American Heart Month where volunteers across America provide educational information about heart disease and strokes. February 1st-th is National Patient Recognition Week, where healthcare professionals and providers come together to renew their stewardship and dedication to their patients. February 2nd-6th is Pride in Food Service Week, where there is an annual event honoring dietary managers and their employees celebrating the important role they play in institutional food service. February 4th-10th is National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, which is designed to promote the role of Cardiovascular Professionals Week, which celebrates the contribution cardiovascular professionals make to health care.

We are going to be starting a card club, playing 10-point pitch, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. If there is any interest, we would also like to start up a bridge club. Let us know your thoughts. Feel free to come and join us, we love to have company.

If there is anyone who has a special hobby or collection and would like to share it with us, please give me a call at 385-3072. We would love to have you.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to send out a special THANK YOU to all of our volunteers. I don't know what we would do without them. They are always there to lend a helping hand with a smile

Hello from the Business Office:
Dorothy Kast is continuing to come to the Care Centre and be of great help with all the billing and all the other things that make the Care Centre work. Jan and Jean from the hospital do much of the financial work. So a big THANK YOU to all of them.

I was so impressed with the weather that I didn't go outside for two days. According to the news, the last time we had this much snow was in 1998.

Some of you have met our new "Residents' Friend". It is a yellow cat, which we have adopted. His name is Romeo, which is a name that fits his attitude and nature. He visits any residents that he can. He is very playful and gives the residents something to smile about just watching him jump and bounce. He purrs a lot and finds our birdcage of great interest.

Here is some food for thought…Richard Steel once said, "Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body".

I would like to welcome Louise Christiansen, Vivien Christiansen, Marie Ann Mackey, Marianna Schilling, Marian Clark, Marie Boll, Hazel Allen and Dorthea Zvacek to our Pender Care Centre family.

The Pender Care Centre continues to do blood pressure clinics at the Pioneer Senior Center on the first Friday of the month at 1:30 pm and at the Walthill Senior Center on the second Friday of the month at 10:30 am. Every other month the Pender Care Centre provides a meal and an education at the meeting. We welcome everyone to join us.

I will be very happy to answer any questions or give any tours to whoever is interested. My hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Give me a call at (402) 385-3072

Just a reminder, PCC does offer the Adult Daycare and Respite Care Programs. For any information, give me a call.

I wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Tidbits from the Kitchen:
Wow! We are already heading into February, where has the time gone? The kitchen staff is busy as ever with new residents coming in and some new Meals-on-Wheels clients. We all hope they love to eat as much as we love to cook! The Valentine Soup Supper is getting closer - the date is set for February 12 - if it doesn't blizzard, that is. We enjoy seeing family and friends come and visit us, we're hoping for a great turnout this year. (Pray for no snow!!) As always, don't hesitate to pop in and say HI to the gals in the kitchen. And if you would like to eat with us, you can get a nice hot meal for only $2.60.

Hope to see you!
Deb and the Kitchen Krew

Hello from Housekeeping:
It's cold outside, but it's warm and friendly inside. Well, 2003 is over for PCC but it was a very good year. We've had a lot of new residents and employees. It's fun getting to know all of you.

In housekeeping, I have been very busy getting rooms painted and ready for our new residents. We've also purchased some new blankest, adult clothing protectors, cloth briefs and soaker pads.

Have a good year!
