New DON Now on Staff

Sandy Pierce has joined the Pender Community Hospital as the Director of Nursing filling the position left vacant by Dee Moeller. Sandy was previously employed by Mercy Medical Center for the past 25 years and has worked as the Director of Network Accreditation Services.

Sandy comments on the Pender Hospital, as being blessed with a sense of family. The patients receive care by the physicians and staff just as though each was a family member. Sandy stated, "My passion is going home and feeling as though I was able to contribute to making a difference. I have been aware that Pender Community Hospital is progressive yet still personable and, when I learned that Dee Moeller was moving to a different position; I knew this was the right place for me. Now that I have been here for a month, I feel like I've been here a long time.
In December Sandy, will receive her Master's in Public Health Care at the University of Minnesota. Her goal is to assist with a community needs assessment and work with the different health care programs to provide the appropriate services needed.
Sandy and her husband live in Sioux City and are anxiously waiting for her husband to retire from Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad in December 2007. She has six adult children and 8 grandchildren. They enjoy outdoor sports.
