NEW ADMINISTRATOR WELCOMED

The hospital welcomed our new CEO, Richard Thomason on 3/2/10. Richard has been involved in healthcare his entire adult life, either as a provider or an administrator. He started as an Air Force medic (a Flight Surgeon's Assistant), providing care to pilots and flight crews, both stateside and overseas.

Richard has worn many hats during his healthcare career including: Laboratory Technologist, Autopsy Assistant, Nuclear Medical Technologist, Ultrasonographer, Department Director, Clinic Executive Director, Administrator, COO, and CEO. His career has spanned work in hospitals, clinics, physician practices, and academic healthcare. His hospital experience includes urban and rural settings, acute care, tertiary care, and critical access. Hospital bed size has been from 25 beds to 400 beds.

Richard has always been active in the communities where he has lived and worked. Most recently, in Keokuk, IA, he was active in Rotary, a board member of Main Street Keokuk, the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, and the Hoerner YMCA. Additionally, he served as District Chairman of the Boy Scouts, played in McNamara's Band, and held offices in both the Masonic Lodge and Kaaba Shriners.

He has always been active in his church and has served as Lay Reader, Council member, Finance committee member, Worship/Music committee, church Elder and communion assistant. Richard and his wife, Karen, have been married for five years and have five adult children between them who have provided nine grandchildren. Their oldest is Director of Environmental Services at a hospital in Florida and their youngest is attending Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. Being "empty-nesters", his immediate family consists of himself, Karen and their seven-year-old golden retriever, Emily.

In moments of "free-time", he enjoys playing the Bass Clarinet, art, golf, trap shooting and cross word puzzles. Karen enjoys arts & crafts, tending her flowers and plants, reading and doing picture puzzles. Karen has been active in several volunteer programs including hospital auxiliary.
