Lander & Young Join Simonsen in Certification of LPN License
Lorraine Lander and Ellen Young recently completed and passed a 48-hour class on May 8, 2004 to become certified LPN's. Cathy Simonsen obtained her certification on November 28, 2000.

An LPN-C may perform limited intravenous therapy interventions under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practitioner. An LPN-C may be used to complement the registered nurse's role or licensed practitioner role in the administration of intravenous therapy. An LPN-C may perform venipuncture, infuse fluids, calculate rate of flow and administer approved medications.

Lorraine Lander has worked for Pender Community Hospital for 36 years. Cathy Simonsen has worked 26 years and Ellen Young has worked 24 years at the hospital.

Requirements for Certification:
1. Have a current Nebraska LPN license or multi-state LPN license from a compact state under the Nurse License Compact Act.

2. Have successfully completed a board approved certification course, which consists of no fewer than 48 hours of classroom instruction and a clinical competency component.

3. Have successfully passed an examination for certification approved by the State Board of Nursing with a score of at least 80%.
